1 – Keep your nails clean and dry

Dirty nails can breed bacteria and fungi, causing infection. Using a nail brush wash your nails every day and dry your hands and feet thoroughly.

If your nail breaks or gets damaged in any way, make sure you file it if you can and apply a disinfectant to avoid any bacteria or fungi getting into the nail bed.

3 – Never remove the cuticles

The cuticles protect the nail bed, rather than removing them, it is best to soak your nails in warm water for a couple of minutes and then push them with a cuticle pusher.

4 – Trim your nails regularly

How to give yourself a manicure1 – If your nails are painted, start by removing the nail polish with an Acetone-free polish remover.

2 – Apply cuticle softener to your cuticles on your left hand

3 – Soak your left hand in warm water for 2-3 minutes

4 – With a cuticle pusher, push your cuticles back on the left hand. Don’t push them too far because the cuticles protect the bed nail.

6 – Buff the nails to remove any stains and ridges

7 – Return the left hand to the bowl of water to remove any residue. Dry your hand.

8 – Repeat 2 to 7 for your right hand.

9 – Massage moisturiser on the nails and the whole hands.

10 – If you are painting your nails you can skip step 9 or you can remove any excess moisturiser from your nails with nail polish remover.

11 – If you want your nail polish to last longer swab your nails with white vinegar. Let it dry.

12 – Apply a base coat. Let it dry. The base coat will protect your nails and prevent stains from bright nail polish.

13 – Apply the nail polish in thin layers, letting it dry after every layer. Two layers are usually enough.

14 – Apply a top coat.  Let it dry. The top coat will help the nail polish last longer, preventing chipping.

15 – Clean any residue or mistake with a cotton bud dipped in nail polish remover. Be very careful not to touch the actual nail.
